Excelergy®
Complex Billing™
Demand response and dynamic pricing, time-of-use data,
green energy rates, value-added services, and finance charges continue to add
levels of complexity to the customer billing process for utilities and energy
marketers. In addition, the customer’s desire for more control over energy
consumption is spurring the growth of Smart Meters. Providing instruments to
record and report usage data require are of minimal value without the ability
to efficiently bill customers by time of use.
Excelergy has been a pioneer in the time of use
billing process, introducing its first complex billing engine more than five
years ago. Today, leading energy suppliers use Excelergy Complex Billing™ to
manage time-of-use meter data and produce accurate bills for millions of
commercial and industrial accounts across North America and Europe. In fact,
the same Excelergy software technology is used by the Italian market operator,
GME, to bill participants in Italy’s wholesale power exchange.
Excelergy Complex billing stores raw time-of-use data
for more accurate billing calculations. Suppliers can either bill for total
consumption or apply interval charges that are specific to a particular usage
interval. Excelergy RevenueManager also allows for the dis-aggregation of
monthly usage across time-of-use load profiles, lets you aggregate interval
usage into a monthly profile, and provides for ability fill in intervals for
missing data.
A successful complex billing system must provide
plenty of flexibility in how supporting systems capture, calculate and bill
usage. In the case of Excelergy, we put the configuration of how the system
processes usage in the hands of users by providing user interfaces for
defining:
- Units of measure
- Time-of-use-intervals
- Usage qualifiers to distinguish the different types of meter data (historical, actual, estimated, etc.)
- Market or client defined Significance profiles that may vary by season
- Ability to derive the on peak / off peak hours based on Significance profiles and company specific holidays
- How to manage Daylight Savings Time
- Time zones
- Green energy rates
- Business rules to control how the system processes usage cancellation that varies by distribution company
- Specific transaction types and subtypes that will be used in billing the meter records
- Ability to bill in all markets (Dual, Supplier Consolidated Bill and Rate Ready, and Distributor Consolidated Bill and Rate Ready)
- Ability to define a different price per interval
- Ability to define whether or not the system should perform a duplicate usage validation on Historical Usage
- Ability to define where the interval data is stored
- Ability to define where historical interval usage data is stored
- Ability to define criteria for tagging financial transactions that are a result of billing consumption data for creating files for the General Ledger
Building on a proven track record, Excelergy will continue to enhance the functionality of RevenueManager to keep in step with new trends in Advanced Metering Infrastructure.
